Squad Goals
The OnSong file format lets you carve up your music into different sections like you're some kinda digital chef. You do this by slamming a blank line between chunks of text. The very first section? That's your metadata zone—where you flex all your metatags & pretend you understand what key your song's in. This is where you set the key, tempo, & other stuff that makes your song actually a song & not just random noise. Peep That Metadata Thing if you wanna learn how to tag your bop properly.
After you hit that first blank line, every other section's got Chords & the Words You Gotta Sing.
Labels Are Apparently Important
Each section can have a name, because apparently we needed to make this harder. Type a name on the first line of the section (throw a colon after it), then hit Enter. In the song viewer, this name shows up above your lyrics in bold & you can also use it to mess with the Flow of your song (whatever that means). The named section keeps goin' until you throw another label at it, so you can break things up into itty-bitty stanzas if you're feelin' fancy.
Here's what that looks like:
Chorus:
The [D]song's chorus is [G]here,
Sing it loud and [A]clear
[D]This is a second part,
But still the [A7]chorus at [D]heart
Musical Instructions (AKA Notes Your Drummer Won't Read)
Sometimes you wanna tell your band stuff that shouldn't show up when you're projectin' lyrics. OnSong's got you covered—just wrap text in parenthesis & it'll look different & won't print to your fancy projector. Boom:
Chorus:
Fa, la, la, la, la, la, la
(Repeat 8x)
