Doodlin' Like It Matters
The drawin' annotation thingy lets you doodle all over your screen. It's an in-app purchase that costs roughly the same as a fancy highlighter from Office Depot. Once you've blown your cash on the drawin' annotation, you can scribble away usin' the draw bar.
The draw bar shows up where the OnSong menu bar usually lives & gives you a whole toolkit for markin' up your song page like it owes you money. Here's what you got, left to right.
You can find the full nerdy details about how to use the Drawin' tool in our video tutorial.
Apple Pencil Integration (a.k.a. The Fancy Stylus Dance)
When you're rockin' an Apple Pencil, OnSong gets all smart & automatically switches to drawin' mode, then grabs whatever drawin' tool you last used. This means you can mark up your doc without tappin' like a maniac in the Annotations Menu. Tap the screen with your finger? Boom—OnSong flips to pan mode automatically. So you can doodle without constantly switchen' things around. Wanna kill this fancy behavior? Flip the Apple Pencil Integration switch in the Layers Menu.
Pan Tool (AKA The "Stop Drawin' & Scroll" Button)
This tool lets you scroll & zoom around the song viewer while you're in drawin' mode. It toggles on automatically if you got Apple Pencil Integration turned on & you poke the screen with your finger.
Pen Tool (The OG)
The pen tool comes out of the box & draws one solid, super-opaque line. Wanna make it thicc or smol? Slide that size slider around. Tap the pen tool again & it'll go into ortho mode—straight lines only, no wobbly garbage. Tap & hold the tool button to crack open the Ortho Threshold Menu. Out of the box, it's black ink at 3 points. Real classy.
Highlighter Tool (Because Sometimes Screamin' Isn't Enough)
This bad boy's got a big square tip & slaps color on at 50% opacity so you can actually see what's underneath. Tap it twice & ortho mode kicks in for those straight-line vibes. Tap & hold to open the Ortho Threshold Menu. Factory default? Yellow ink, 24 points. Very intense.
Eraser Tool (The Undo Button You Actually Control)
This tool lets you erase the stuff you messed up. Tap it when it's already selected & you'll toggle Ortho Mode on & off for straight-line erasin'. Tap & hold the button to open the Ortho Threshold Menu. Comes set to 24 points & the color picker's turned off (because erasers, duh).
Move Tool (AKA "Oh Crap, My Doodles Shifted")
Use this when your drawin's in the wrong spot because you changed the song content & everything went sideways. Just slide your masterpiece back where it belongs.
Size Slider (The "Make It Bigger or Smaller" Slider)
This lil' slider lets you tweak how thicc or smol your tool is. Range goes from 1 pt to 64 points. Pro tip: one inch = 72 points. Tap anywhere & drag left/right to move it around, or tap the edges to micro-adjust by one point at a time. Your size choice sticks around for each tool separately.
Color Picker (The "I Have Feelings" Button)
Pick a color for whichever drawin' tool you got selected. The app remembers your color choice per tool. Options: black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown & white. Use white to white-out PDF sections or when you're rockin' low-light mode. Feelin' extra? Create & manage your own custom color palette in the Color Picker.
Undo (Oops!)
This reverts your drawin' to before your last tool/size/color move. So if you drew with the pen & didn't change nothin', undo nukes all those pen strokes. Tap a color again, tweak the size, or switch tools & you create a whole new undo state. Each one's saved as a separate layer. Nice.
Layers (The "I'm Actually Organized" Section)
New layers pop into existence whenever you swap tools, adjust size, or pick a different color. Wanna make a fresh layer mid-doodle? Just tap the color you're usin'—like dippin' a real pen in an ink well. Boom. Layer made.
Layers are clutch for drawin' annotations then togglein' 'em on & off for teachin', practice, or showin' off. Hit the layers icon & you'll open the Layers Menu, where you can hide/show layers or edit 'em like they owe you money.
Redo (The Opposite of Oops!)
This tool does the opposite of undo & brings back whatever you just erased from existence. Drew somethin', hit Undo, & watched it vanish? Tap Redo & it's back. Magic.
Done Checkmark (The "I'm Finished & Want My Life Back" Button)
All done scriblin'? Tap the checkmark to save your glorious doodles & bounce back to the song viewer & menubar.
