Bleepin' Chords
The chord doodad lets you transpose & capo chords like some kinda musical wizard, plus decide how those lil' chord squiggles actually look on your screen. It also lets you pick an instrument for chord diagrams so you can flex like you know what you're doin'.
The full style preferences menu is totes only for nerdy text-based chord charts. BUT if you've downloaded charts from the cool kids like PraiseCharts or SongSelect, you can transpose stuff IF you're signed in (no pressure). OnSong will bug the content provider to grab extra attachments as needed. If you already got attachments with keys matchin' the type, you can transpose between 'em without WiFi. Otherwise, if you're eyeballing some imported file, you can Extract & Edit it or Use Text Version like it's 1997.
Chord Drip
The style choosers lets you pick how the chords should vibe on the screen. Pick your poison:
- Alpha spits chords as alphabet letters (A-G) with your sharp-or-flat mood. Default.
- Nashville shows chords as numbers (1-7) based on where they sit in the key. Very indie.
- Roman displays chords as Roman numerals (I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii) based on their spot in the key. So fancy.
- Solfege displays chords as numbers in Latin (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti) based on the key. The "do" can be locked or movable by tappy-tappin' the wrench icon.
Key
The key chooser lets you set the key of your chord chart. This can be totally different from how the song was written in the song editor cuz transposition is mathematickin' from the OG key to whatever you pick here.
The most common keys show up in "circle of fifths" order (fancy!), with keys that don't have a million sharps & flats chillin' on the left. Keys flip between major & minor based on how the song was born. You can flip this to alphabetical order, or go full retro with the old slider vibe using the Transpose Control option.
Power users who want like ALL the keys or love theoretical nerd stuff can flip on Theoretical Keys.
Capo
The capo slider lets OnSong be a lil' genius & adapt your chords based on capo position. This keeps the song's key locked in but changes the chords so they actually work with your capo. You can capo 0 to 11 & turn it on/off with the power button on the right.
By default, crankin' up the capo slider will modulate the chords down. Why? Cuz we're tryna keep the song's declared key exactly the same, duh. Like, if the song's in C# & you capo on fret 1, set the capo slider to 1. It'll show the chords down one half step in C instead.
You can totally change how capo messes with your chord chart in Thingies » Display Thingies » Song Getup » Capo.
You can tap the left & right of the slider to adjust capo up & down one fret. Revolutionary.
Chord Pic Boxes
Diagrams can be doodled on the chord chart to help when you're playin', or for printin' chord charts for teachin' purposes. Turn diagrams on & off with the power button next to the slider. Use the slide to set how many diagrams squeeze across one page (between 4 & 10). Tight fit city.
You can tap the left & right of the slider to bump the number of diagrams by one. So clicky.
Where the Chord Pic Boxes Live
The diagram position chooser lets you decide where chord boxes get drawn. Pick one:
- None = no chord diagrams. Default. Sad.
- Below = diagrams hang out under the song.
- Above = diagrams chill above the song, right below the title & metadata. Fancy.
- Within = chord diagrams swap in for the actual chords in your lyrics. Confusing but cool.
Instrument
You can swap the diagram instrument by picking from the instrument chooser menu. Or just tap on chords or diagrams in the song viewer to pop open the Chord Inspector. Peek at chord shapes on different instruments like you're shoppin'. When you close it, the chord chart redraws with whatever instrument you just picked.
Transposing Instrument (For the Fancy Folks)
If your instrument is a show-off & doesn't play concert pitch, you can tweak the chords that show up all over the song. Adjust for your lil' diva instrument:
- Off = concert pitch & most stringed stuff like piano. Normal person setting.
- B-flat = B-flat posers like trumpet, clarinet, bass clarinet, & soprano & tenor saxophones.
- E-flat = E-flat snobs like soprano clarinet, or alto & baritone saxophones.
- F = F instruments like French & English horns. Ooh la la.
- G = alto flute. You're special.
The Method to the Madness
Stuff you change here does NOT mess with the original song in the song editor. Don't panic.
When you pick a song in All Songs, changes go to the master library. If you pick a song in a book or set with Separate Set/Song Styles turned on, it only affects that song in that set. So you can transpose a song to a different key just for one book without ruining the master version. Smart!
You can change how this screen works & looks by tappy-tappin' the wrench icon in the upper left to mess with Style Preference Chords options. Go wild.
