Voice Schmvoice: Let Your Mouth Do the Work

Tired of actually, like, touching your device like some kind of caveman? Voice control lets you use your voice & the microphone or audio input on the device to control OnSong. (Yes, we're aware you have hands. We don't judge.) This screen lets you configure what your bleepin' mouth can do.

Flip That Microphone On (Or Don't. We Don't Care.)

In the upper right corner is a microphone icon. You can tap on this to start listening. When tapped, the microphone highlights to indicate it is enabled. Since it's a bit clunky to come in here to enable voice control like some kind of tech archaeologist, the user interface section gives you other way easier ways to enable it.

User Interface (aka "The Lazy Panel")

This section configures ways that you can enable voice control including:

Throw Voice Control on the Live Bar Button

This switch can be turned on to enable the voice control live bar button. Using this button will replace the adhoc networking live bar button with the voice control button. (Sorry, networking peeps. You're ditched.) You can use the Live Bar Settings to further customize what live bar buttons appear.

Make a Trigger Do Stuff

You can also assign a Voice action to a trigger such as a foot pedal or screen tap. If one is assigned, the triggers will appear on the right side like little obedient soldiers.

Commands (aka "What Your Voice Can Actually Do Without Embarrassing You")

This section allows you to configure Voice Control to listen for certain types of commands including:

Actions

OnSong will listen for you to name actions to perform. This can be nearly any action that can be assigned in the other tabs. For instance, you can say "Scroll Down" or "Next Section". The key is to combine the verb & noun that is present in every action. (Grammar teachers hate this one weird trick!)

Songs

You can use Voice Control to load songs in your library. This operates similar to quick pick by either loading the song present in a set, or by showing it from All Songs. To use, say the word "Go To" & then the name of the song. After a second, OnSong will search for the song name & switch to that song. (No pressure to pronounce it right. We're not judging.)

Sections

You can use Voice Control to become a music director & say the section where you are going. This uses the named section labels in text-based chord charts. For instance, you could say "Verse 1" or "Chorus" to go to those sections. OnSong selects the section & scrolls to it & in so doing, performs any actions or MIDI associated with the section & displays its lyrics if enabled. (Look at you. You're basically conducting an orchestra now.)
