The Tunes Menu Settings Thingamajig is basically used to make the Tunes Menu look & work however you want it to, & it's got a buncha options that'll blow your mind (or at least kill some time):

Look Pretty

These settings decide how fancy your menu looks.

  • Auto Show/Hide Song List will totally ghost your song list the second you pick a song. But don't worry—when the menubar pops back, your songs menu comes crawlin' back automatically. It's like a clingy ex.
  • Big Boy Section Indexes makes those tiny index thingies on the right side of loooong lists actually visible without a magnifying glass. Sure, you might see fewer indexes, but at least your fingers won't cramp tappin' on 'em.
  • Two-Column Flex Mode splits your songs menu down the middle—browse stuff on the left, actual songs on the right. Revolutionary, we know.

Do Stuff

This section is all about what goes down when you pick a song from the songs menu.

  • Automatically Load Set decides if the set you tapped on yeets itself into the song viewer right away. Default is "yes obvi," but flip it off & you'll have to manually tap to load songs. Groundbreaking.
  • View Selected Songs As controls how songs show up in the viewer. Normally, the whole Collection loads so you can swipe through like you're scrollin' TikTok. Or pick Single Song mode & only that one sad little song loads (unless you're in a set, obvs).

Books

General book vibes live here.

  • Separate Styles makes books keep their own style preferences separate from your main library. So you can transpose that one song for your screamy vocalist & it won't wreck the key everywhere else. Totes convenient.

World Languages & Stuff

These options change how OnSong alphabetizes content for languages that aren't just boring English.

  • Collate Accented Characters swaps out the sorting algorithm to put accented letters next to their non-accented homies. It's on by default for non-English & can be switched off if your library is so massive it's slowin' you down.
  • International Characters Last yeets any songs startin' with fancy letters like Ü or Ã… to the back of the bus. Turn it off & they sort normally next to their plain cousins. Default is off, obvi.

List Weirdness

Customize how your song list actually displays.

  • Articles to Remove lets you pick which words (like "A," "An," "The") get ignored when sorting. Just space 'em out & boom.
  • Automatically Hide Songs Menu makes the whole menu vanish the nanosecond you pick a song or set. Poof.
  • Remove Articles when Sorting sorts songs startin' with "The" by the next word instead. So "The Reckoning" hangs out next to "Return to Narnia." Fancy.
  • Remove Description Text kills that second line with the artist & key. Goodbye, visual clutter.
  • Show Alphabetic Index lets you choose when those alphabetic index thingies appear on the right. Pick Always, Automatic (the lazy default), or Never.
  • Show Media Assignments throws a lil' icon on songs that've got backing tracks linked to 'em. You're welcome.

Multiselect Chaos

Configure how pickin' multiple songs works in the songs menu.

  • Preview While Selecting lets you peek at songs while you're multi-selectin' 'em to do bulk stuff. Multitaskin' FTW.

Settings that control how the songs menu tabs act out.

  • Automatically Select auto-picks the highlighted row after waitin' a bit. Set it to Off, half a second, or 1–5 seconds. Default is 2 seconds. If it's Off, you gotta hit Select manually like it's 2005.
  • Double Tap To Root brings back an iOS thing that confused the heck outta people. When on, tappin' an already-active tab takes you back to square one. OnSong ditched this by default to save your sanity, but flip it back on if you're feelin' nostalgic.

Sets

The sets section tweaks how the Sets tab in the Songs Menu does its thing. Peep the options:

  • Auto-Archive Sets moves old sets outta the way automatically so your menu doesn't look like a hoarder's garage. First time it happens, OnSong asks what timeline you want. Pick anywhere from 1 day to 3 months.
  • Display Timing shows how long your set takes on the right side. Off = no timing (default), Songs = each track's length, Set = total runtime of everythin' stacked together.
  • Display Song Order puts a number next to each song in the set. Default is off so it doesn't look like a listicle.
  • Separate Styles keeps set-specific preferences locked to that set only. Transpose a song for one set & it won't torpedo your master library. Chef's kiss.
  • Set Picking Mode lets you choose how you build sets. New method shows what you've already picked but lets you add songs multiple times & insert after the current one. Old method uses checkmarks & appends everything to the end.
  • Show Numbers decides if you see song numbers or sort order on the left of titles. Keep it real or keep it hidden.
