Ur Weird Extra Deets
The OnSong® app has literally always let you slap metadata on songs — y'know, that boring info that helps you actually find your stuff & not lose your mind during a gig. BUT NOW (plot twist!) you can make up your own tags & use 'em to hunt down & sort your songs like a bleepin' pro. ZOMG!
Makin' 'Em Up
To craft your own custom metadata tags, you'll need to hop into the Song Editor Dungeon. OnSong® plays nice with either the OnSong® file format or ChordPro to stash all that metadata goodness — basically name/value pairs written as text with a colon between 'em, because we're fancy like that. ChordPro even wraps 'em in curly braces, bless its heart.
OnSong® already knows a whole buncha official tags (documented over in OnSong® Metadata & ChordPro Metadata, if you're into that). BUT HERE'S THE KICKER: you can literally type whatever you want. Genre: Rock. Year: 1964. Mood: Existential Dread. OnSong® will remember it, store it in your song, & let you organize by it. Wild, right?
Diggin' Through 'Em
Once you've tagged up your songs like a mad lad, those tags show up in the Songs Menu Tags. Tap in there & you'll see all the tag types you invented. Then just tap a type & boom — all the values you typed pop up so you can filter your songs down. It's like magic, except it's literally just tags.
Sortin' By 'Em
Wanna sort instead of browse? Cool, cool. Just mash the sort menu icon in the bottom left of the Songs List to unlock the Sorting Menu. Your tags get their own lil' submenu & OnSong® is srsly smart enough to figure out what data type each tag is & sort it the right way. You're welcome.
Showin' 'Em Off
Here's the thing: custom metadata tags don't show up in your song viewer by default, but OF COURSE you can change that. Just swing by the Style Preferences Menu › Format Tab & customize the Metadata format to your heart's content. You got this!
